Bournemouth University Student Centre is to become the hub for the Student Union; this new flagship building in the heart of the campus has been eagerly awaited and will provide high quality facilities for students.
The building includes offices for the Union officers and staff as well as an area for students for informal gatherings and the main meeting point for the Union's many clubs and societies. The café area will be a well utilised focal point for students and the student counselling area will provide a much needed quiet area. One floor of the building has been designated for Event use and will be used to showcase various initiatives undertaken by the University.
Lowe and Oliver undertook the complete Mechanical & Electrical installation of a new six storey Student Building, this involved the installation of a new plant room which was positioned on the sixth floor. The Air Handling Unit supplied a ventilation system to serve both open areas and office areas utilising the raised access floor void as a plenum air displacing through floor swirl grilles. The main heat source on the project is served via three number gas fired boilers serving Hudevad radiators throughout the building and the cooling to the building served via chilled system that serves chilled beams throughout the building. A general extract system serves the toilet blocks and kitchen areas. A Breeam complaint sanitary ware system has been installed. A full Building Management Systems has been installed to control the mechanical systems. Electrical installation includes a Disabled Alarm System, Refuge Alarm System, Fire Alarm System, Intruder Alarm System, CCTV System and a Lighting Controls System.
